(Lights dim and resume. Barbara is sitting with Sofia and baby Maria in the back of an abandoned Red Cross van. The wind is howling and blowing. It’s raining. )

I wonder when I’ll ever see my husband.
I wonder if he’ll come back home.
I wonder if he’s alive or dead, or...?

For three months I’ve just been thinking about my baby.
Trying to stay alive so I can keep her alive.
One hour ago we had no hope at all.
But now we are alive and free.

Now I know how the Hebrews felt.
I know there’s hope for our band.
I feel just like we’ve crossed the desert forty years.
This feels just like the promised land.
When my husband Mike is back with us,
